The aim of this study is to compare two pulpotomy medicaments in primary molars Pulpotomy Dental Caries, Drug: Biodentine Drug: ProRoot. Extensive Decay in Primary Molars, Drug: Biodentine pulpotomy Drug: White MTA Pulpotomy using Tempophore as pulpotomy medicine in a control group. Biodentine pulpotomy was performed followed as pulpotomy medicament in primary molar teeth, on follow-up it was found to be successful.

Biodentine Septodont, Saint Maur des Fosses, France was used for the pulp-capping procedures because its good sealing ability, short setting time, biocompatibility, bioactivity, and biomineralization properties and was a better option than MTA for a single-sitting pulpotomy procedure.

Direct capping of human pulps with dentin bonding system or calcium hydroxide cement. There was no history of swelling or medications. The exposed dentin and Biodentine were both sealed with direct composite restoration Esthet X- Dentsply Caulk, Milford, DE to build up the fractured tooth structure at the same appointment.

The role of endodontics after dental traumatic injuries. The sharp fractured margins were smoothened; the exposed pulp and surrounding dentin were flushed clean with isotonic saline solution. Select your language of interest to view the total content in your interested language. Biodentine pulpotomy consisted of pulp tissue removal to a depth of 2 mm, then capping the pulpal wound with Biodentine, followed by immediate restoration.

Biodentine pulpotomy several days after pulp exposure: Four case reports

The liquid contains water, calcium chloride as setting accelerator and a modified polycarboxylate as superplasticising or water reducing agent [ 5 – 8 ]. They concluded that both MTA pulpottomy well as Biodentine are both suitable for pulp-capping.

Latest bioactive materials such as Mineral Trioxide Aggregate MTA and Biodentine, Calcium-Enriched Mixture CEM have excellent biocompatibility and sealing abilities with the added advantage of inducing proliferation of the pulpal cells. This dissolution process occurs at the surface of each grain of calcium silicate. Biodentine was developed based on the most biocompatible chemistry available for dental materials: They concluded that biodentine has bioactive properties, encourages hard tissue regeneration, and provoke no signs of moderate or severe pulp inflammation response [ 22 ].

Follow-ups Periodic follow-ups were carried out at 24 hours; 1 week; 30 days; 3, 6, 12, and 18 months. The following search terms used were clinical applications, biodentine, pediatric dentistry, children, advantages, dentin substitute, pulp therapy, root filling, and tooth repair.

The calcium silicate will interact with water leading to the setting and hardening of the cement. Endodontic treatment of teeth with apical periodontitis. Mineral trioxide aggregate as a pulpotomy agent in immature teeth: The patient was recalled after one day for evaluation of post-operative pain and swelling.

Biodentine Pulpotomy in Mature Permanent Molar: A Case Report

Accordingly, they commented that fast favorable pulpal response render this material a suitable choice compared to other materials [ 33 ]. The exposed pulp was red in color.

The dentin bridges are created faster and are thicker than with similar dental materials and represent the necessary condition for optimal pulp healing without any threat on body tissues [ 5666 ]. A year old male patient reported with chief complaint of pain in right back tooth region since days. National Center for Biotechnology InformationU. Conclusion In accordance to the favorable results of our cases, a reasonable argument supporting mature tooth pulpotomy in cases of irreversible pulpitis can be stated.

Bioactivity evaluation of three calcium silicate-based endodontic materials. Their successful use has been well reported in animal studies but has not been as promising in humans.

Thereby, suggesting biodntine as an alternative therapy for mature teeth with irreversible pulpitis. There was no history of spontaneous pain, swelling, or tooth mobility in the teeth with Ellis Class III fracture.

A sluggish bleeding present even after application of pressure suggests an infected radicular pulp with need of root canal treatment. Immediate post-operative radiograph after Biodentine pulpotomy. The fractured fragment was removed and pulpotomy was carried out in 11 [ Figure 3 ]. However, biodentine required less time for the pulpotomy procedure [ 22 ]. It sets within minutes, which allows full restorations to be completed in one office visit.

History revealed trauma prior to 5 days.

On examination, an Ellis class III fracture with clinical pulp involvement was seen in relation to 12, and Ellis Class II fracture was present in 11 and J Am Dent Assoc. Therefore, it is not suitable for a permanent enamel replacement [ 6 ]. A clinical evaluation over 6 to 35 months of biodentine, as a base and pulp capping, demonstrated excellent biocompatibility and longevity [ 9 ]. Examination revealed fracture line involving coronal pulp chamber.

Biomaterials such as Biodentine with pulp healing properties may challenge the complete philosophy of our conventional endodontic treatment. Please review our privacy policy. Gradually, the CSH gel fills in the spaces between the tricalcium silicate grains. Permanent molar pulpotomy with a new endodontic cement: Orstavik D, Pittford T, editors; pp.

Hydrophilic nature and requires moisture to cure, making it a suitable material for procedures like pulpotomy. They have gradually become the materials of choice for the repair of all types of dentinal defects creating pulpotomyy pathways between the root-canal system and the periodontal ligament [ 654 ]. A promising dentin substitute.

Because of its faster setting time, easier handling, and more enhanced mechanical properties, biodentine can be used safely and effectively as pulp capping material especially with its ability to initiate early mineralization by releasing Transforming Growth Factor- beta from pulpal cells to encourage pulp healing [ 6 ].

An year-old male patient reported to our department with complaint of fractured upper anterior teeth. The bleeding from the radicular pulp could be controlled by pressure from cotton pellets dipped in sterile normal saline for 5 minutes showing that the radicular pulp was vital and non-infected. The bioedntine case reports describe the technique of Biodentine pulpotomy in mature permanent teeth following several days of traumatic pulpal exposure.

Preserving the exposed pulp. Case reports with two-year follow-up. Footnotes Source of Support: As part of its chemical setting reaction, calcium hydroxide is also formed [ 59 ].
